Using Schaefer's fixed-point theorem and the theory of strongly continuous cosine functions, the authors prove the existence of mild solutions to the damped nonlinear second-order differential equation with nonlocal conditions \[ x''(t)= Ax(t)+Bx'(t)+f(t,x(t),x'(t)), \quad x(0)= x_0-g(x),\;x'(0)=y_0,\quad t\in [0,T], \] where \(A\) is the generator of a strongly continuous cosine function on a Banach space \(X, x_0,y_0\in X\), \(B\) a bounded linear operator on \(X\) and \(f:[0,T]\times X\times X \to X, g:C([0,T],X)\to X\) are given functions satisfying continuity and measurability assumptions such that the Schaefer fixed-point theorem can be applied.
