The authors implement linear stability analysis to study double-diffusive convection in superposed fluid and porous layers on the basis of a one-equation model. Finite difference technique is used to transform the differential eigenvalue problem into a matrix one; the latter is solved using a heuristic trial-and-error procedure. Numerical results are compared with their counterparts from a two-equation model. The answer to the question which model is better could be found only after carefully conducted physical experiments.
