For a given majorant \(\omega\), the Zygmund space \(\Lambda^\omega= \Lambda^\omega (Q_0)\) is defined as the set of all bounded functions \(f\) on the cube \(Q_0= [-1,1]^n\) satisfying, for all admissible \(x\) and \(h\) and for some constant \(A\geq 0\), the (generalized) Zygmund conditions \(| \Delta_h^2 f(x)|\leq A\omega (| h|)\). It is assumed that NEWLINE\[NEWLINE\int_0^1 \frac{\omega(t)}{t^2} dt=+\infty, \quad \int_0^t \frac{\omega(s)}{s} ds\leq C\omega(t), \quad t^2 \int_t^1 \frac{\omega(s)}{s^3} ds\leq C\omega(t).NEWLINE\]NEWLINE The main result of the paper is that every closed proper ideal in the Zygmund algebra \(\Lambda^\omega\) is an intersection of closed primary ideals. The proof of Theorem 2 is based on two major results: an abstract spectral synthesis theorem for a class of functional Banach algebras and a special extension theorem for Zygmund functions which implies that \(\Lambda^\omega\) are \(D\)-algebras.
