Let \(D\subset\mathbb{C}^m\) be a pseudoconvex bounded domain of finite type with \(C^\infty\)-smooth boundary \(\partial D\) and assume that the group \(\Aut(D)\) of biholomorphic automorphisms of \(D\) is noncompact.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe authors study the (nonempty) set \(S(D): =\partial D\cap \bigcup_{p\in D} \overline {\Aut (D)(p)}\) of accumulation points of \(\Aut (D)\)-orbits in \(\partial D\). Based on substantial results from the theory of bounded domains they prove in a straightforward way several interesting properties of \(S(D)\). At first, \(S(D)\) is closed. Therefore it is nowhere dense in \(\partial D\) or contains a strictly pseudoconvex point (i.e. \(D\) is holomorphically equivalent to the unit ball). Moreover, if \(S(D)\) contains at least three points then it contains no isolated point and, if not connected, has uncountably many connected components. The set \(S(D)\) is \(\Aut(D)\)-invariant (after extending the elements of \(\Aut(D)\) to \(\overline D)\) and has the following remarkable property (Prop. 3): \(S(D)\) contains the fixed point set \(F\) of \(\Aut (D)\) in \(\partial D\) and itself contained in the closure of every nontrivial \(\Aut (D)\)-orbit in \(\partial D\). In particular, \(F\) is contained in the closure \(\overline A\) of every nontrivial \(\Aut (D)\)-orbit \(A\) in \(\partial D\). Moreover it follows that \(\Aut (D)\) has at most two fixed points in \(\partial D\), and if \(x_0 \neq x_1\) are fixed points of \(\Aut (D)\), then \(S (D) =\{x_0,x_1\}\). NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINELet \(L\) be the set of points of \(\partial D\) where the rank of the Levi form is minimal. Then, since \(L\) is a closed \(\Aut(D)\)-invariant subset of \(\partial D\), either \(S(D) \subset L\) or \(L= \{x_0\} \subset S(D)\). Related results are true for the type function and the multiplicity function on \(\partial D\).NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe authors present a list of open problems related to the structure of \(S(D)\).
