Given the rigidity of domains in \(\mathbb{C}^n\) in general, it is important to know which domains have ``many'' automorphisms. One way to interpret ``many'' is to say that the automorphism group is noncompact. A noncompact automorphism group of a bounded domain results in boundary points which are accumulation points of orbits (of points of the domain). In the paper under review, the author shows that an isolated point of maximal type cannot be such an accumulation point. Denote by \(\tau_\Sigma(q)\) the D'Angelo type of the real hypersurface \(\Sigma\) at the point \(q\). The main result of the paper is the following theorem. Theorem. Let \(\Omega\) be a domain in \(\mathbb{C}^2\). Assume that there exists a point \(p\in b\Omega\) admitting an open neighborhood \(U\) in \(\mathbb{C}^2\) satisfying the conditions: (1) the boundary is \(C^\infty\)-smooth pseudoconvex in \(U\), and (2) \(\tau_{b\Omega}(q)< \tau_{b\Omega}(p)\) for every \(q\in (U\cap b\Omega)\setminus\{p\}\). Then there are no automorphism orbits accumulating at \(p\).
