The author considers the problem of finding a suitable deficient spline interpolating data given on the function and its fourth derivative at a given set of nodes. This is the (0,4) lacunary interpolation problem and it has natural applications to such problems as that of beam deformations and the like. Under suitable assumptions the existence and uniqueness of the solution in the class of deficient splines of sixth degree is proved. Further the error analysis is given from which it follows that the convergence of the interpolation process is of almost the fifth order. Some numerical results are presented. In the last section some generalizations of the problem are made.
