The author describes an iterative adaptive mesh algorithm (based on the insertion of new mesh pionts) that can be used for the numerical solution of various types of first-kind Fredholm integral equations arising in applications. Two examples are used to illustrate the numerical performance of the method, and possible extensions to boundary integral equations corresponding to elliptic boundary value problems are discussed. (The author appears to be unaware of many of the significant recent developments in the numerical analysis of boundary integral equations).
