This paper discusses the behaviour of continuous Runge-Kutta methods when applied to a variety of applications including initial value problems, delay differential equations, integro-differential equations and waveform relaxation. In particular, the orders of these methods are analyzed in terms of the stage order of the underlying method and how the order can be raised by a type of iterated defect correction and a boot-strapping process based on Hermite-Birkhoff interpolation. Finally linear and nonlinear stability properties for both standard and delay problems are discussed.
