The main result of the paper is the inequality \[ \Big(1+\frac1N-\frac1p\Big)^p\int_{\mathbb R^N}|\nabla\hat{u}|^p\,dx \leq\int_{\mathbb R^N}|\nabla u|^p\,dx \] for every radial function \(u\in W^{1,p}(\mathbb R^N)\), where \(N\geq2\), \(p\in[1,\infty)\) and \[ \hat{u}(r)=\frac1{|B_r|}\int_{B_r}u(y)\,dy \] (\(B_r\) denotes a ball with radius \(r\) centered at the origin). Moreover, the authors prove that the constant \(\big(1+\frac1N-\frac1p\big)^p\) is best possible and it is attained if and only if \(p=1\) and the function \(r\mapsto u(r)\) is nonincreasing.
