The author considers the non-autonomous Lyness equation \(x_{n+1}=(x_n+b_n)/x_n\), \(b_n>0\), \(x_0>0, x_1>0\) and proved that the solutions of it are bounded away from zero (persist) and infinity if the sequence \(b_n\) is monotonic. He also gives an example showing that the solutions need not to be bounded even when the sequence \(b_n\) attains only two values. Notice that very similar results were obtained by \textit{E. A. Grove, C. M. Kent} and \textit{G. Ladas} [J. Difference Equ. Appl. 3, No. 3--4, 241--258 (1998; Zbl 1005.39505)] for a more general equation of the form \(x_{n+1}=(a_nx_n+b_n)/x_{n-1}\).
