FADEC (full authority digital engine control) is a controller which performs the complicated signal processing of engine data. Let the control calculation of FADEC be performed at time interval \(T_0\) and the self-diagnosis be performed at the \(n\)th calculation. The expected cost per cycle from \(0\) to \(nT_0\) is taken in the form \[ C_2(n)=\frac{c_1}{n+T_1}+c_2\int_0^{nT_0}(nT_0-t)\,dF(t)+c_3, \] where \(F(t)\) is the reliability of FADEC at time \(t\) and \(c_1, c_2, c_3, T_1\) are positive constant parameters. Then the expected cost for unit time is \(C_1(n)=C_2(n)/nT_0\). It is shown, that there exist values \(n_1\) and \(n_2\) which minimize \(C_1(n)\) and \(C_2(n)\).
