Let \(X\) be a real Banach space and \(T:X\to X\) a continuous operator satisfying \(\Vert Tx- Ty\Vert\ge\beta\Vert x-y\Vert\) and \(\langle Tx-Ty,j(x-y)\rangle\ge\alpha\Vert x-y\Vert^2\) for some \(\beta>0\) and \(\alpha\ge 0\) where \(j\) is a selection of the duality map \(J\) of \(X\). The author shows that \(T\) is then surjective if either \(0\le\alpha<\beta/2\), or \(\beta\ge 2\) and \(0\le\alpha<1\). This result is applied to prove the weak solvability of the Dirichlet problem for the \(p\)-Laplace equation \[ -\Delta_pa(u(x))+\varepsilon F(x,u(x),\nabla u(x))= 0\quad(x\in\Omega) \] with Lipschitz continuous convection term \(F\) on a bounded open subset \(\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^n\).
