After the publication of \textit{G. Darbo}'s celebrated fixed point theorem [Rend. Semin. Mat. Univ. Padova 24, 84--92 (1955; Zbl 0064.35704)], measures of noncompactness and condensing operators have become a fashionable field of nonlinear functional analysis. In particular, the survey of \textit{K. Goebel} and the first author of the paper under review, who is one of the leading specialists in the field, published as Lecture Notes by M. Dekker [Measures of noncompactness in Banach spaces. New York, Basel: Marcel Dekker (1980; Zbl 0441.47056)] lead to an increasing interest in applications. Here, the authors consider applications to infinite systems of nonlinear integral equations of Volterra-Hammerstein-Stieltjes type on a half-line. The underlying space consists of all bounded continuous functions on \([0,\infty)\) with values in a Banach space equipped with the sup norm. In view of the unbounded domain of definition, the measure of noncompactness used here has an additional ``truncated'' term which takes into account the asymptotic behaviour of the function sets. This approach has already turned out to be useful in a recent paper by the first author and \textit{A. Chlebowicz} [Banach J. Math. Anal. 13, No. 4, 944--968 (2019; Zbl 1469.45006)]. At the end of the paper, the authors give an example which shows that the hypotheses are at least not contradictory.
