Let \(\Sigma \) be a \( C^ 3\) compact symmetric convex hypersurface (that means the boundary of a compact strictly convex region) in \(\mathbb{R}^{8} \). It is shown that if \(\Sigma\) carries exactly four geometrically distinct closed characteristics, then there are at least two irrationally elliptic closed characteristics on~\(\Sigma\). The main result is proved using the equivariant Morse theory, the index iteration theory developed by Y. Long and his coworkers, especially the common index jump theorem of Y. Long and C. Zhu, and the commutative property for closed characteristics in the common index jump intervals.
