A bounded linear operator \(T\) on a Hilbert space is called an \(m\)-isometry if it satisfies the operator equation \[ \sum_{j=0}^{m}(-1)^{m-j}\binom{m}{j}T^{*j}T^{j} = 0. \] Note that \(1\)-isometries are exactly the usual isometries. The notion of \(m\)-isometry was introduced by Agler and later studied in details by Agler and Stankus in a series of papers. A familiar result from Sz.-Nagy-Foias dilation theory asserts that any isometry admits a unitary extension. Among other results, Agler-Stankus proved that every \(2\)-isometry has a Brownian unitary extension. The current paper offers a generalization of this result to \(m\)-isometries for integers \(m\geq 3\). The author defines the notion of \(m\)-Brownian unitaries, describes their matrix representations, and discusses their basic properties. It turns out that for \(m\geq 3\), only certain expansive \(m\)-isometries admit \(m\)-Brownian unitary extensions. These operators are refered to as sub-Brownian \(m\)-isometries. The paper offers the following results: (1) a characterization of sub-Brownian \(m\)-isometries; (2) the descriptions of operators which admit sub-Brownian \(m\)-isometric liftings; (3) a characterization of sub-Brownian weighted shifts. Several illustrative examples are presented.
