Extra automorphisms of cyclic orbifolds of lattice vertex operator algebras (Q6051101)

In this article the authors study conditions under which orbifolds of vertex operator algebras can exhibit larger automorphism groups than would naively be expected. They do this for a well chosen class of examples, lattice vertex operator algebras, as a stepping stone towards a general theory. If \(V\) is a vertex operator algebra and \(G\subset \Aut(V)\) is some group of automorphisms acting on \(V\), then \(V^G\) is the vertex operator subalgebra consisting of fixed points of \(G\). Naively, one would expect \(\Aut(V^G)\) to be a quotient of the normaliser \(N(G)\) in \(\Aut(V)\), however, this need not be the case and the article provides explicit counter examples. The main result of the article is Main Theorem 1. There for any rootless (no elements of norm 2) even lattice L and a choice of cyclic group (of lattice automorphisms) with fixed point free generator \(g\) a distinguished orbifold vertex operator algebra is considered. The existence or non-existence of additional automorphisms (so ones which do not come from taking a quotient of \(N(G)\)) is completely determined by the order of the cyclic generator \(g\) and the rank of the lattice \(L\). For those cases where there are no additional automorphisms, the automorphism group is given explicitly in Main Corollary 1. Further, Main Corollary 2, classifies when there exists automorphisms that give rise to certain types of twisted modules. These are all related to coinvariant lattices of the Leech lattice.
