In [Russ. Math. Surv. 58, No. 3, 511--591 (2003; Zbl 1118.14021); translation from Usp. Mat. Nauk 58, No. 3, 89--172 (2003)], \textit{D. O. Orlov} proposed the conjecture that two smooth projective varieties that are derived equivalent have isomorphic Chow motives. This conjecture has been proven to be true for \(K3\) surfaces, as demonstrated in [\textit{D. Huybrechts}, Abh. Math. Semin. Univ. Hamb. 88, No. 1, 201--207 (2018; Zbl 1426.14004)]. Additionally, the authors of the reviewed article have provided a proof that derived equivalent \(K3\) surfaces have isomorphic Chow motives as Frobenius algebras, in their previous work [\textit{L. Fu} and \textit{C. Vial}, Adv. Math. 383, Article ID 107674, 44 p. (2021; Zbl 1464.14011)]. It is also conjectured that this holds true for higher dimensional hyper-Kähler varieties, as discussed in loc.cit. The reviewed article proves that if the Kuznetsov components of two cubic fourfolds are Fourier-Mukai equivalent, then their Chow motives are isomorphic as Frobenius algebras. In term of the refined Chow-Künneth decomposition of Chow motives, it is also shown that the their transcendental motives in weight \(4\) are isomorphic (as quadratic space objects). These results can be viewed as a non-commutative analogue to the case of \(K3\) surfaces, as the Kuznetsov component \(\mathcal{A}_X\) of a cubic fourfold \(X\) can be regarded as a non-commutative \(K3\) surface. In the geometric case, they are more demonstrated. For example, when the Kuznetsov component \(\mathcal{A}_X\) is derived equivalent to the bounded derived category of a (twisted) \(K3\) surface \(S\), the transcendental motive of \(X\) in weight \(4\) is isomorphic to the transcendental motive of \(S\) in weight \(2\) (with appropriate twisting of Tate motives).
