On the Michor-Mumford phenomenon in the infinite dimensional Heisenberg group (Q6052383)

It is a well-established fact that a weak Riemannian metric on an infinite-dimensional manifold may only induce a pseudo-metric on that manifold. This paper presents examples of left-invariant weak Riemannian and sub-Riemannian metrics on the infinite-dimensional Heisenberg group \(\mathbb{H}\) which likewise yield only pseudo-metrics. Furthermore, the authors provide a characterization of the points where these induced pseudo-metrics vanish in both cases. Notably, it is shown that the sectional curvature with respect a left-invariant weak Riemannian metric on \(\mathbb{H}\) is unbounded precisely on sequences of planes where the induced pseudo-metric vanishes.
