    The paper considers the problem \[ \begin{cases}(-\Delta)_p^{s_1} u+(-\Delta)_q^{s_2} u \in[\underline{f}(u), \bar{f}(u)]+|u|^{q_{s_2}^*-2} u & \text { in } \Omega, \\ u=0 & \text { in } \mathbb{R}^N \backslash \Omega,\end{cases} \] where \((-\Delta)_p^{s}\) is the fractional \((s,p)\)-Laplacian, \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^N\) is a smooth bounded domain, \(0<s_1<s_2<1,1<p<q<\) \(\frac{N}{s_2}, q_{s_2}^*:=\frac{N q}{N-s_2 q}\) is the fractional critical exponent, \(f \in L_{\text {loc }}^{\infty}(\mathbb{R})\) and \[ \underline{f}(t):=\lim _{\varepsilon \rightarrow 0} \operatorname{ess} \inf _{|t-\tau|<\varepsilon} f(\tau),\qquad \bar{f}(t):=\lim _{\varepsilon \rightarrow 0} \operatorname{ess} \sup _{|t-\tau|<\varepsilon} f(\tau) . \] Here \(f\) is allowed to have discontinuities. Under some additional assumptions on \(f\), the main result in the paper shows the existence of a weak solution in this setting.
