The property of being quasi-monodromically full may be regarded as an analogue for hyperbolic curves of the property of not admitting complex multiplication for elliptic curves. One may prove that, as in the case of elliptic curves that do not admit complex multiplication, for an arbitrary prime number \(\ell\), ``many'' hyperbolic curves are in fact quasi-\(\ell\)-monodromically full. The authors show that the geometric isomorphism class of a quasi-\(\ell\)-monodromically full hyperbolic curve with small numerical invariants over a sub-\(\ell\)-adic field is completely determined by the commensurability class of the kernel of the associated pro-\(\ell\) outer Galois action.
