In the paper under review, the authors, for each finite classical group \(G\), classify the subgroups of \(G\) which act transitively on a \(G\)-invariant set of subspaces of the natural module, where the subspaces are either totally isotropic or nondegenerate. The proof uses the classification of the maximal factorisations of almost simple groups (see [\textit{M. Liebeck} et al., Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 432, 151 p. (1990; Zbl 0703.20021)]). As a first application of these results, the authors classify all point-transitive subgroups of automorphisms of finite thick classical generalised quadrangles.
