Recall that given a rearrangement invariant space \(E\) on \([0, 1]\), the Rademacher subspace \(R(E)\), is the subspace of \(E\) generated by the Rademacher system \(r_{k}(t)= \text{sgn sin} (2^{n} \pi t)\), \(t \in [0, 1]\). Moreover, a Banach space \(E\) has the Banach-Saks property if every sequence \(\{x_{n} \}\) in \(E\) weakly converging to \(0\) admits a subsequence \(\{x_{n_{k}} \}\) such that \[ \lim_{m \to \infty} \;\frac{1}{m} \left\| \sum_{k=1}^{m} x_{n_{k}} \right\|=0. \] The main result of the paper under review states that there exists a rearrangement invariant space \(E\) on \([0, 1]\) such that \(R(E)\) lacks the Banach-Saks property. The proof of this result depends on a reflexive space with an unconditional basis and without the Banach-Saks property constructed by \textit{A. Baernstein} [Stud. Math. 42, 91--94 (1972; Zbl 0206.42104)].
