The present paper is the third part of a serie of papers (see [\textit{F. Catanese}, Vietnam J. Math. 50, No. 3, 781--806 (2022; Zbl 1491.14054); \textit{F. Catanese} and \textit{M. Schütt}, Pure Appl. Math. Q. 18, No. 4, 1379--1420 (2022; Zbl 1498.14094)]) about singularities of normal quartic surfaces \(X\subset\mathbb P^3_K\) over an algebraically closed field \(K\) of characteristic 2. In particular, the present paper deals with the non-supersingular case, i.e., when the Picard number of the minimal resolution of \(X\) is not 22. The main result of the paper is that in this framework the maximum number of singular point is 12 and types of singularities are \(A_1\) and \(A_2\). Moreover, when the maximum number of singularities is attained, there are at most 3 singular points of type \(A_2\). The proof of the result is based on theory of elliptic fibrations of \(K3\) surfaces, using in particular the presence of sections and non-reduced fibers in order to bound the number and type of singularities. Moreover, the authors give an example of a 22-dimensional family of quartics with 12 nodes and show how to generalize the example to have non-supersingular quartics with an arbitrary number of nodes up to 12 in any characteristic.
