The crucial question of the article is: ``If all hyperplane sections through the origin resp. orthogonal projections of a convex body are `equal', is the convex body `equal' to the ball?'' The central question is furthermore, what `equal' means: the notion of this word changes throughout the paper. So stands this word for \begin{itemize} \item [(a)] `Equal area': in general the answer is `no', but it is `yes' for central symmetric bodies. \item [(b)] `Congruence': the answer is `yes'. \item [(c)] `Similarity': the answer is `yes', but the resulting ball is not necessarily centred at the origin. \item [(d)] `Affine Equivalence': In this case the question is equivalent to the Banach conjecture over the reals. \end{itemize} The last meaning of `equal' leads to the real and complex Banach conjecture. This conjecture says that ``if all hyperplane sections through the origin of a \(4\)-dimensional convex body \(B\) are affine equivalent, the convex body \(B\) is an ellipsoid.'' The author studies the topology of Lie groups, introduces the ideas and results of M. Gromov and discusses the exceptional case \(n=5\). In the last chapter the author considers the related question: ``If all orthogonal projections of a convex body onto hyperplanes are `equal', is the convex body 'equal' to a ball?'' If `equal' means `same area' the answer is `yes' [Alexandrov], for other meaning the author shows that this leads to a characterisation of an ellipsoid; for this proof he uses the ideas developed for the Banach conjecture.
