Let \(G\) be a finite group. A homology decomposition of the classifying space \(BG\) for \(G\) is a process of glueing together classifying spaces of a suitable collection of subgroups of \(G\) in order to obtain a space that is isomorphic to \(BG\) in \(\mathrm{mod}\)-\(p\) homology. \textit{W. G. Dwyer} [Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 63, 197--220 (1998; Zbl 0891.55021)] proved that the collection of \(p\)-centric subgroups of \(G\) gives rise to a sharp homology decomposition yielding a particularly simple formula for the cohomology of the classifying space \(BG\) in terms of the cohomology of the spaces involved in it. Such a context can be extended to saturated fusion systems \(\mathcal{F}\) thanks to the homotopy theory of fusion systems introduced by \textit{C. Broto} et al. [J. Am. Math. Soc. 16, No. 4, 779-856 (2003; Zbl 1033.55010)] and the existence of a unique object that plays the role of the classifying space \(B\mathcal{F}\) for \(\mathcal{F}\) (see [\textit{A. Chermak}, Acta Math. 211, No. 1, 47--139 (2013; Zbl 1295.20021)]). In this view, \textit{A. Díaz} and \textit{S. Park} [Homology Homotopy Appl. 17, No. 1, 147--164 (2015; Zbl 1329.55014)] stated a sharpness conjecture for fusion systems (see the text for an exact formulation). In the paper under review, the authors prove that the Díaz-Park sharpness conjecture holds for saturated fusion systems defined on a Sylow \(p\)-subgroup of the group \(\mathrm{G}_{2}(p)\) for \(p \geq 5\).
