Let \(\mathcal{A}\) be a skeletally small, abelian, and finitary category over a finite field. That is, \(\operatorname{Hom}_{\mathcal{A}}(X,Y)\) and \(\operatorname{Ext}_{\mathcal{A}}(X,Y)\) are finite dimensional vector spaces for all \(X\) and \(Y\). The Hall algebra associated to \(\mathcal{A}\) is defined as the vector space with a basis indexed by the isomorphism classes in \(\mathcal{A}\), with a multiplication defined through the so-called Hall numbers, which capture information about the extensions between objects of \(\mathcal{A}\). The roots of this notion go back to [\textit{E. Steinitz}, Jahresber. Dtsch. Math.-Ver. 9, No. 1, 80--85 (1901; JFM 32.0149.02); \textit{P. Hall}, Proc. 4th Can. Math. Congr., Banff 1957, 147--159 (1959; Zbl 0122.03403)]. In the main theorem of the paper under review, recursive formulas for the Hall numbers are obtained for the category of coherent sheaves on a weighted projective line (see [\textit{W. Geigle} and \textit{H. Lenzing}, Proc. Symp. Lambrecht/Pfalz/FRG 1985, 265--297 (1987; Zbl 0651.14006); \textit{O. Schiffmann}, Duke Math. J. 121, No. 1, 113--168 (2004; Zbl 1054.17021)]). It is worth mentioning that these formulas are based on Green's formula [\textit{J. A. Green}, Invent. Math. 120, No. 2, 361--377 (1995; Zbl 0836.16021)]. In the last section, the author shows similar formulas for the categories of nilpotent representations of cyclic and tame quivers.
