This work is devoted to the study of the linear system for isotropic and homogeneous thermoelastodynamics in the whole space for dimensions one to three in the case that the heat conduction is determined by the Fourier law. By employing the Helmholtz decomposition the mechanical part is split into a solenoidal part plus a potential part. The main purpose of the paper is to study the asymptotic behaviour of the potential part. The (corresponding) thermoelastic system is reduced to a third-order evolution equation. Authors use WKB and Fourier analyses to determine the time estimates. The authors provide optimal growth estimates of the displacement, where the growth rates agree with those for the free wave model when the dimension is one or two. For the three-dimensional case the optimal decay rate is related to the Gaussian kernel. For large values of the time the leading term is given by means of the diffusion waves, the heat kernel and singular components. A second profile for the solution is also presented by diffusion waves as a second product. The results are relevant since they suggest a wave-structure at low dimensions (one and two) when the time is large.
