This is an interesting paper dealing with the Dirichlet boundary value problem concerning the Kirchhoff type equation \[ -\eta(|u|_{H^1_0})u''=f(t,u), \text{ a.a. } x\in(0,1), \] associated with the boundary conditions \(u(0)=u(1)=0,\) where \(\eta:\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}\) is a continuous increasing function, \(f:[0,1]\times\mathbb{R}_+\to\mathbb{R}_+\) is an \(L_2\)-Caratheodory function and \(|u|_{H^1_0}\) stands for the quantity \((\int_0^1u'^2)^{1/2}.\) The authors provide sufficient conditions which guarantee the applicability of the Krasnoselskii's fixed point theorem in cones to ensure the existence of positive concave solutions satisfying the relation \(u(1-x)=u(x),\) \(x\in [0,1].\) The Harnack-type inequality \(u(x)\geq\gamma\|u|_{H^11_0}\), \(x\in [x_0,1-x_0]\) is also proved. \(x_0\) is any point in the interval \((0,\frac{1}{2}).\) The existence result is extended to systems of equations of this form, where, here the vector version of Krasnoselskii's fixed point theorem is applied component-wise.
