The problem under consideration is the Cauchy problem on a finite interval \([0,T]\) \[ u'(t)+A(t)u(t)+K(u(t))=h(t),\quad u(0)=0, \] where \(A(t)\) is a leading self-adjoint operator in a Hilbert space \(H\) with domain \(H_1\) which is also a Hilbert space densely and compactly embedded in \(H\), and \(K\) is a subordinate monoton operator. A Galerkin approximation of the initial value problem used by the authors is the representation of an approximate solution as a sum of weighted eigenvectors of an auxiliary operator similar to the operator \(A(0)\). The coefficients of the sum are time-depended number functions defined by an initial value problem for a system of ordinary differential equations. An estimate for the convergence rate of derivatives of the approximation and an estimate on the domain of fractional powers of the leading operator are presented. These estimates are demonstrated for an initial-boundary problem for a parabolic equation of fourth order.
