The authors investigate predator-prey models with constant stocking or harvesting and epidemic models with importation or isolation of infected individuals. They demonstrate, that in the unperturbed models (no stocking and harvesting or no importation or isolation, respectively) transcritical bifurcations occur and that these transcritical bifurcations break up into (pairs of) saddle-node bifurcations in the presence of small imperfections. In the considered examples only one saddle-node bifurcation corresponding to positive solutions is meaningful, depending on the sign of the perturbation parameter. For the perturbed epidemic model the authors also study the occurrence of a Takens-Bogdanov bifurcation, which exhibits periodic and homoclinic solutions.
