In the paper under review, relations between different generalizations of the Lebesgue integral for functions taking values in Banach spaces are investigated. For separable Banach spaces, the situation is well understood thanks to Pettis' measurability theorem, which reduces the problem to the analysis of the convergence character of certain series. In particular, Birkhoff, McShane and Pettis integrability are equivalent in separable Banach spaces. Relations between various integrals in non-separable Banach spaces have been intensively studied by J.~Rodríguez and his coauthors. The authors prove that McShane and Pettis integrability are equivalent for functions taking values in a subspace of a Hilbert generated Banach space. This generalizes previous results on such an equivalence ([\textit{L. Di Piazza} and \textit{D.~Preiss}, Ill. J. Math., 47, 1177--1187 (2003; Zbl 1045.28006)], [\textit{J.~Rodríguez}, J. Math. Anal. Appl., 341, 80--90 (2008; Zbl 1138.28003)]). The new approach relies heavily on the special properties of the Markushevich bases of those Banach spaces. Note that \textit{A.~Avilés, G.~Plebanek} and \textit{J. Rodríguez} [J. Funct. Anal., 259, 2776--2792 (2010; Zbl 1213.46037)] have constructed a reflexive space \(X\) and a Pettis integrable function defined on \([0,1]\) and taking values in \(X\) which is not McShane integrable. By the second main result of the authors, for any super-reflexive generated Banach space \(X\) with \(\mathrm{dens}X\geq \mathbf{c}\), the Birkhoff integrability lies strictly between Bochner and McShane integrability. Finally, they give a ZFC example of a scalarly null Banach space-valued function (defined on a Radon probability space) which is not McShane integrable. This provides a negative answer to a question of K.~Musiał. Under the CH, such an example was given in the paper by Di Piazza and Preiss mentioned above.
