A bounded linear operator \(T\) on the Hilbert space \({\mathcal H}\) is called hyponormal if the commutator \([T^*,T]:=T^*T-TT^*\), where \(T^*\) is the adjoint of \(T\), is positive, i.e., \(([T^*,T]f,f)\geq 0\) for all \(f \in{\mathcal H}\). This definition generalizes the concept of a normal operator, where \(T^*T=TT^*\). The main purpose of this paper is to describe the normality and hyponormality of dual Toeplitz operators on the orthogonal complement of the harmonic Bergman space. The space \(L^2({\mathbb D})=L^2({\mathbb D}, dA)\), where \(dA\) is the normalized area measure on the unit disc \({\mathbb D}\), is the Hilbert space of measurable functions on \({\mathbb D}\) such that \[ \|f\|_2=\int_{\mathbb D}|f(z)|^2 dA(z)<+\infty. \] The harmonic Bergman space \(L^2_h\) is the closed subspace of harmonic functions on D in \(L^2({\mathbb D})\). The orthogonal projection from \(L^2({\mathbb D})\) onto \(L^2_h\) is denoted by \(Q\). If \(\varphi\in L^\infty({\mathbb D})\), \(S_\varphi u:= (I-Q)(\varphi u)\) is the dual Toeplitz operator with symbol \(\varphi\) on \((L^2_h)^\perp\). The first result in this paper shows that if \(\varphi\in L^\infty({\mathbb D})\), then the dual Toeplitz operator \(S_\varphi\) is hyponormal on \((L^2_h)^\perp\) if and only if it is normal. It is also obtained a necessary and sufficient condition for the dual Toeplitz operator \(\varphi\) with the symbol \(\varphi(z) = az^{n_1}\overline{z}^{m_1} + bz^{n_2}\overline{z}^{m_2}\), where \(n_i, m_i\in{\mathbb N}\), \(i=1,2\) and \(a, b \in\mathbb C\), to be hyponormal. Finally, it is shown that the rank of the commutator of two dual Toeplitz operators must be an even number if the commutator has a finite rank.
