Using the Ricci curvature formalism, the author answers a question by \textit{S. K. Donaldson} [J. Differ. Geom. 70, No. 3, 453--472 (2005; Zbl 1149.53042)] to understand whether the lower bound of the Calabi functional is achieved by a sequence of normalized Donaldson-Futaki invariants.
