The paper investigates the question how \(L^p\)-bounds, \(p > m/2\), for a Riemannian metric on an \(m\)-dimensional manifold imply Hölder bounds for the distance function. The main result reads as follows. Let \(M\) be a smooth closed connected manifold of dimension \(m\). Let \(g_0\) be a smooth and \(g_1\) a continuous Riemannian metric on \(M\). If there is \(p>m\) such that the \(L^{p/2}\)-norm of \(g_1\) on \(M\) with respect to \(g_0\) is bounded by a constant \(C\), then the \(g_1\)-distance of two points in \(M\) is bounded by their \(g_0\)-distance to the power \((p-m)/p\) up to a multiplicative constant that depends on \(C\), \(p\), \(m\), a bound on the absolute value of the sectional curvature, the injectivity radius, and the diameter of \((M,g_0)\). The theorem is then used to show several convergence and compactness results.
