A notion of non-positive curvature that provides a much stronger control over the coarse geometry of the group is the notion of hierarchically hyperbolic group (this notion was introduced by \textit{J. Behrstock}, the first and third authors in [Geom. Topol. 21, No. 3, 1731--1804 (2017; Zbl 1439.20043)] and [Pac. J. Math. 299, No. 2, 257--338 (2019; Zbl 1515.20208)]). The idea of hierarchical hyperbolicity is to describe the coarse geometry of a group using a ``coordinate system'' where the coordinates take values in various hyperbolic spaces. In the paper under review the authors add a large class of Artin groups to the ``naturally occurring'' hierarchically hyperbolic groups (Theorem A): Artin groups of large and hyperbolic type are hierarchically hyperbolic. The authors point out that Artin groups of large and hyperbolic type contain in particular all Artin groups of extra-large type (see \S 2.1 of the paper for precise definitions of these classes).
