In the paper under review, the authors study the Waldschmidt constants of very general points in projective spaces. Let \(I\) be a non-zero proper homogeneous ideal in the polynomial ring \(\mathbb{C}[x_{0}, \dots, x_{N}]\) and denote by \(\alpha(\mathbb{P}^{N}_{\mathbb{C}},I)\) the initial degree, i.e., \[\alpha(\mathbb{P}^{N}_{\mathbb{C}},I) = \min\{d : I_{d} \neq 0\}.\] Then the Waldschmidt constant of \(I \subset \mathbb{C}[x_{0}, \dots, x_{N}]\) is defined as \[ \widehat{\alpha}(\mathbb{P}^{N}_{\mathbb{C}},I) = \inf_{m\geq 1} \frac{\alpha(\mathbb{P}^{N}_{\mathbb{C}}, I^{(m)})}{m}, \] where \(I^{(m)}\) denotes the \(m\)-th symbolic power of \(I\). Let us recall that the celebrated conjecture by Demailly predicts that if \(Z \subset \mathbb{P}^{N}_{\mathbb{C}}\) is a finite set of points and \(I\) is the defining homogeneous saturated ideal, then for all \(m\geq 1\) one has \[ \widehat{\alpha}(\mathbb{P}^{N}_{\mathbb{C}}; I) \geq \frac{\alpha(\mathbb{P}^{N}_{\mathbb{C}}, I^{(m)}) +N-1}{m+N-1}. \] The main results of the paper under review can be summed up as follows. Theorem A. Demailly's Conjecture holds for \(r\geq m^{N}\) very general points in \(\mathbb{P}^{N}_{\mathbb{C}}\). Theorem B. Let \(k\) be a positive integer and let \(s\) be an integer in the range \(1\leq s \leq k\). Let \[r\geq s(k+1)^{N-1}+(k+1-s)k^{N-1}.\] Then \[\widehat{\alpha}(\mathbb{P}^{N}_{\mathbb{C}}; I_{r}) \geq k + \frac{s}{k+1},\] where \(I_{r}\) denotes the radical homogeneous ideal defining a set of \(r\) generic points in \(\mathbb{P}^{N}_{\mathbb{C}}\). In order to show these results, the authors use the introduced concept of Waldschmidt decompositions, see Definition 2.1 therein.
