In the paper under the review, the authors study period integrals involving Whittaker functions associated to generic irreducible Casselman-Wallach representations of \(\mathrm{GL}_n (F)\), where \(F\) stands for an Archimedean local field. Using the theory of Archimedean newforms, the authors prove that for generic irreducible smooth representations \(\pi\) and \(\sigma\) of \(\mathrm{GL}_n (F)\) there exist Whittaker functions \(W_{\pi}\) and \(W_{\sigma}\) in the Whittaker models of \(\pi\) and \(\sigma\), and a Schwartz-Bruhat function \(\Phi\) such that the Rankin-Selberg integral \(\Psi (s, W_{\pi}, W_{\sigma}, \Phi)\) equals the Rankin-Selberg \(L\)-function \(L(s, \pi \times \sigma)\). This parallels the analogous result obtained by the second author in the non-Archimedean case ([\textit{Y. Jo}, Math. Nachr. 296, No. 1, 339--367 (2023; Zbl 1530.11051)]). Having both Archimedean and non-Archimedean cases at hand, the authors additionally obtain the existence of weak test vectors for certain global period integrals of automorphic forms.
