In the present paper, the authors discuss the issue of global (in time) existence of small data Sobolev solutions of Cauchy problems for semilinear structurally damped \(\sigma\)-evolution equations with power nonlinearity. The model the authors have in mind is \[ u_{tt}+ (-\Delta)^\sigma u + (-\Delta)^\delta u_t=|u|^{p},\,u(0,x)=u_0(x),\,u_t(0,x)=u_1(x).\tag{1} \] Here \(\delta \in [0,\sigma]\), \(\sigma >0\), a reasonable assumption that the term \((-\Delta)^\delta u_t\) can be interpreted as a damping term, at least for \(\sigma \geq 1\) . The main goal is to find critical exponents. It is clear that this goal depends heavily on the choice of the data spaces. There are different strategies in the literature. Some authors assume data from energy space related to model (1). Other authors assume additional integrability assumptions of the data. Other authors assume additionally data from weighted spaces. Finally, authors assume that data belong additionally to Sobolev spaces of negative order. These different choices have a common feature. They determine in some sense a behavior of the Fourier transformed data for small frequencies. This behavior allows to prove decay estimates which can be effectively used to apply a standard approach to prove well-posedness of global (in time) small data Sobolev solutions. In the present paper the authors use another idea to describe the behavior of Fourier transformed data for small frequencies. They use the so-called decay indicator and decay character. This concept was applied by \textit{A. S. Cárdenas} and \textit{C. J. Niche} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 506, No. 1, Article ID 125548, 15 p. (2022; Zbl 1480.35030)] to study classical damped waves with absorbing power nonlinearity. It is quite interesting to understand how this concept allows to study structurally damped \(\sigma\)-evolution models with source power nonlinearity. This is the main goal of the paper. In particular, it is interesting to understand how the decay character of the data appears in different critical exponents.
