      For \(\nu \in \mathbb{N}\) and \(p>2\), consider \(L_{p,\infty }(\mathbb{R}^{\nu })\), the weak \(L_{p}\)-space of Lebesgue measurable functions and \(\mathcal{L} _{p,\infty }\), the weak \(L_{p}\)-ideal of compact operators. \textit{B. Simon} [Bull. Am. Math. Soc., New Ser. 7, 447--526 (1982; Zbl 0524.35002)] posed the following open problem. Is it true that, for every \(g\in L_{p,\infty }(\mathbb{R}^{\nu })\), we have \[ \begin{array}{cc} M_{g}(H-z)^{-\frac{\nu }{2p}}\in \mathcal{L}_{p,\infty }, & z\notin \mathrm{spec}(H)? \end{array} \] Here, \(H=-\Delta +M_{V}\). In the present paper, the authors provide a negative answer to the problem above for all \(\nu \geq 1\).
