The authors deal with the Neimann-Poincaré operator, a singular integral operator on planar domains, such as crescent-shaped domains and touching disks with a cusp. The spectral properties of the Neimann-Poincaré operator have been studied by many other authors in Lipschitz domains with no cusp. They show that the Neimann-Poincaré operator is a bounded self-adjoint operator on a certain Hilbert space, and that it has an absolutely continuous spectrum, equal to the closed interval \([-1/2, \, 1/2]\). They apply the results to the problem of plasmon resonances on crescent-shaped domains.
