The authors' abstract provides an excellent and succinct summary of results, which we more or less quote here. The authors establish geometric properties of the Mandelbrot set \(M\), and of the corresponding Julia sets \(J_c\), near the main cardioid of \(M\). They show that: (a) \(M\) is locally connected at certain infinitely renormalizable parameters \(c\) of bounded satellite type, providing first examples of this kind; (b) The Julia sets \(J_c\) are locally connected and have positive area; (c) \(M\) is self-similar near Siegel parameters of periodic type. The authors obtain these results by analyzing the unstable manifold of the so-called pacman renormalization operator constructed by \textit{D. Dudko} et al. [J. Am. Math. Soc. 33, No. 3, 653--733 (2020; Zbl 1457.37061)]. A key ingredient is the analysis of the one-complex-dimensional holomorphic family of transcendental holomorphic dynamical systems on the unstable manifold of the renormalization operator. Elements of this family, although not entire functions, are however amenable for the analysis thanks to well-developed tools from the dynamical theory of transcendental entire maps. From this the authors extract a quadratic-like family, which is then related to the dynamics of Mandelbrot parameters.
