The possibility of inserting a continuous multifunction between a lower semicontinuous and an upper semicontinuous one is investigated in the spirit of \textit{G. M. Nepomnyashchij}'s many-valued selections [in: Continuous functions on topological spaces, Collect. sci. Works, Riga, 111--122 (1986; Zbl 0625.54024)]. In particular \(\tau\)-paracompact normal spaces and \(\tau\)-collectionwise normal spaces (with and without additional assumptions concerning zero-dimensionality) are characterized by such a multiselection property. The considered multifunctions take their values in complete metric spaces, so that no convexity is necessary.
