A random variable \(Z\) taking values in \(\{0,1,2\dots\}\) with \(\mathbb{P}(Z=m)={\mathrm{e}}^{-\gamma}\gamma^m/m!\) is called Poisson with mean \(\gamma\). For a group \(G\) with \(\sigma\)-finite Haar measure \(\lambda\) and a fixed parameter \(\alpha>0\) a Poisson point process on \(G\) with intensity \(\alpha\) is a random variable \(X\) taking values on the space \(\mathbb{M}\) of Borel simple point measures on \(G\) with the property that for every Borel subset \(A\) of \(G\) with \(\lambda(A)<\infty\) the number of points of \(X\) in \(A\) is a Poisson random variable with mean \(\alpha\lambda(A)\). In a monumental work extending much of Ornstein theory to the amenable group setting, \textit{D. S. Ornstein} and \textit{B. Weiss} [J. Anal. Math. 48, 1--141 (1987; Zbl 0637.28015)] showed that Poisson systems over amenable groups satisfying some technical conditions giving a `good entropy theory' are isomorphic. Here Poisson systems on non-discrete, non-compact, locally compact Polish groups are shown to be finitarily isomorphic. Under more restrictive assumptions, it is shown that a Poisson system splits into two Poisson systems whose intensities sum fo the intensity of the original system, generalizing an earlier result in [\textit{A. E. Holroyd} et al., Ann. Probab. 39, No. 5, 1938--1982 (2011; Zbl 1277.60087)].
