Let \(u_\varepsilon\) be a single peaked positive solution of the Hénon equation \[ -\Delta u = C(\alpha) |x|^\alpha u^{p_\alpha-\varepsilon} \quad \text{in } \Omega, \] with zero Dirichlet boundary conditions, where \(C(\alpha)=(N+\alpha)(N-2)\), \(N \geq 3\), \(\alpha>0\), \(\varepsilon>0\), and \(p_\alpha = (N+2+2\alpha)/(N-2)\). The existence of \(u_\varepsilon\) is established in [\textit{F. Gladiali} and \textit{M. Grossi}, J. Differ. Equations 253, No. 9, 2616--2645 (2012; Zbl 1266.35105)]. The authors study a Dirichlet eigenvalue problem coming from the linearization of the Hénon equation: \[ -\Delta v = \lambda C(\alpha) (p_\alpha-\varepsilon) |x|^\alpha u_\varepsilon^{p_\alpha-\varepsilon-1} \quad \text{in } \Omega, \] assuming that \(\alpha\) is not an even integer. They establish asymptotics of several corresponding eigenvalues and eigenfunctions as \(\varepsilon \to 0\). The obtained results help to show that the Morse index of \(u_\varepsilon\) is \(N+1\) whenever \(\alpha \in (0,2)\), which affirmatively answers a conjecture raised in the above mentioned article of Gladiali and Grossi.
