Do the generators of wavelet frames (`framelets') in \(L^2(\mathbb R)\) form a dense subset? This question was raised by \textit{D. R. Larson} [NATO ASI Ser., Ser. C, Math. Phys. Sci. 495, 267--312 (1997; Zbl 0892.46068)] and was affirmatively answered by \textit{M. Bownik} [Math. Res. Lett. 14, No. 2, 285--293 (2007; Zbl 1138.42017)] and \textit{C. Cabrelli} and \textit{U. Molter} [Constructive Approximation 26, No. 1, 65--81 (2007; \url{doi.org/10.1007/s00365-006-0644-5})] almost at the same time. The paper under review studies the density of the set of all refinement masks of framelets. The author constructs a compactly supported Parseval wavelet frame, with many vanishing moments, whose refinement mask \(m_0\) approximates an arbitrary continuous periodic function. The unitary extension principle of \textit{A. Ron} and \textit{Z. Shen} [J. Funct. Anal. 148, No. 2, 408--447 (1997; Zbl 0891.42018)] is a tool that is used.
