Let \(G\) be a group, \(\mathfrak{F}\) a formation and \(G^{\mathfrak{F}}\) the \(\mathfrak{F}\)-residual of \(G\) (that is the intersection of all normal subgroups of \(G\) with quotient in \(\mathfrak{F}\)). A subgroup \(H\) of \(G\) is called \(K\mathfrak{F}\)-subnormal (resp. submodular) in \(G\) if there is a subgroup chain \(H=H_{0} \leq H_{1} \leq \ldots \leq H_{n}=G\) such that, for every \(i\) either \(H_{i}\) is normal in \(H_{i+1}\) or \(H_{i+1}^{\mathfrak{F}} \leq H_{i}\) (resp. \(H_{i}\) is a modular subgroup of \(H_{i+1}\)). Let \(\mathfrak{U}_{1}\) be the formation of all supersolvable groups of square-free exponent. In the paper under review the authors prove that a subgroup of prime power order of \(G\) is submodular if and only if it is \(K\mathfrak{U}_{1}\)-subnormal. Furthermore, for a solvable subgroup-closed formation \(\mathfrak{F}\), every solvable \(K\mathfrak{F}\)-subnormal subgroup of \(G\) is contained in the solvable radical of \(G\). The authors also obtain some applications of these results to groups factorized by \(K\mathfrak{F}\)-subnormal and submodular subgroups.
