Dual polar association schemes form an important family of association schemes, whose intersection numbers were computed in [\textit{Z. Wan} et al., ``Studies in finite geometries and the construction of incomplete block designs'' I--VIII, Acta Math. Sin. 15 (1965) (in Chinese)] (see also [\textit{Z. Wan}, ``Finite geometries and block designs,'' Sankhyā, Ser. A 54, Spec. Vol., 531--543 (1992; Zbl 0883.05039)] for a summary in English of the Chinese papers). In this paper, the authors generalize the formulas for the intersection numbers, and introduce their applications to pooling designs, Cartesian authentication codes and vertex-transitive graphs.
