Some new examples with almost positive curvature (Q625334)

The author gives explicit new examples to a relatively short list of known nonnegatively curved Riemannian manifolds which have quasi-positive (resp. almost positive) curvature, meaning that the sectional curvatures at one point (resp. on a dense set) are strictly positive. He constructs free \(S^1\) and \(S^3\) actions on \(S^7\times S^7\) with quotients admitting almost positive curvature. In addition, the author also shows that the quotient \(U(n+1)/L_{p,q}\) of the bi-action of \(L_{p,q}= \{\text{diag}(z^{p_1},\dots, z^{p_{n+1}})\oplus \text{diag}(z^{q_1}, z^{q_2})\oplus U(n-1)\mid z\in\mathbb{C},|z|= 1\}\) admits a metric of quasi-positive curvature, provided that the bi-action is free.
