Consider the following complex Kostant--Toda system, \[ \dot a_n =b_n-b_{n-1}, \quad \dot b_n =b_n(a_{n+1}-a_n)+c_n-c_{n-1}, \quad \dot c_n =c_n(a_{n+2}-a_n), \quad n \in \mathbb{N}, \] where the dot denotes differentiation with respect to \(t \in \mathbb{R}\) and \(b_0\equiv 0\), \(c_0 \equiv 0\), and \(c_n \neq 0\) is assumed. The authors show that the study of this system can be reduced to the evolution of the main block of the semi-infinite matrix \(J^n\), where \(J\) denotes the Lax operator. As a second result they present a connection beween the resolvent function and the evolution of the system of vectorial polynomials. The method is based on an investigation of the moments and their evolution.
