The authors consider two analytic families of quadratic forms \((a_{t})\) and \((q_{t})\) in a Hilbert space which degenerate as the real parameter \(t\) tends to \(0^{+}\), and assume that information is available on the spectrum of \(a_{t}\) and on the simplicity of all corresponding eigenvalues for \(t\) sufficiently small. Then the authors assume that \((a_{t})\) and \((q_{t})\) are asymptotic as \(t\) tends to \(0^{+}\) and show that under appropriate assumptions one can deduce information on the simplicity of all eigenvalues of \((q_{t})\) from corresponding information on the simplicity of the eigenvalues of \((a_{t})\). As an application, the authors prove that for almost all triangles \(T\) in \({\mathbb{R}}^{2}\) each eigenspace of the Dirichlet Laplace operator in \(T\) is one dimensional, and that a corresponding result holds for simplexes in Euclidean spaces.
